Family Presevation Programs * SHAPE (Supportive Home and Parent Enrichment) rovides guidance, instruction and support to parents with children at risk of out-of-home placement. Services include: Weekly home visitation Weekly parent support groups Instruction individually tailored to the parent's learning capabilities Effective parenting Child developmental needs The application of healthy, disciplinary techniques Basic life skills Family management Building self-esteem and self-confidence as parents * Healthy Families-Steuben provides comprehensive home-based services to expectant parents and parents with newborns in Steuben County. Home visiting provides support, nurturance, and information to new parents with the goals to reduce family tensions, teach positive parenting skills and improve parent-child interaction. Foster Care Programs * Therapeutic Foster Homes Therapeutic foster family care homes specialize in the care of hard-to-place children and adolescents. Prior to their certification and placement of their first child, each family care home: Undergoes an extensive home study Completes the MAPPS certification process Attends in-service training sessions Foster parents are an integral component of the child's therapeutic process Kinship's staff provide our foster homes with: Weekly monitoring visits Case planning Twenty-four (24) hour a day consultation and crisis intervention Monthly in-service training * Clinical Counseling Services Each child accepted into our foster care program receives: Psychological screening A psychiatric evaluation, if indicated Individual family and group therapy Chemical Dependency Services The Chemical Dependency Program seeks to: Promote the maintenance of abstinence from alcohol and other mood altering drugs and substances. Improve the functioning and development of coping skills necessary to enable the resident to be treated in a less intensive environment. Develop individualized treatment plans to support the maintenance of recovery and the attainment of self-sufficiency including eventual employment. Provide either directly or through referral to appropriate agencies, habilitative and rehabilitative services. Promote the value of independence and self-sufficiency.
